Responsibilities
The Role of the Parent or Guardian:
The parent or guardian has the primary and sacred responsibility to educate their child in the Catholic faith. Resurrection’s Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) is established to assist parents and families in fulfilling this responsibility.
Living the faith at home is essential to a child’s growth and development. Studies show that the values of parents/guardians become the values of their children. Resurrection Church assists in this responsibility through the Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) and the celebration of Eucharist liturgy each Sunday. Children mature spiritually and morally when they attend the weekly Sunday or Saturday evening Mass with their parent/s.
The Director should be informed by the custodial parent of the rights of the non-custodial parent as these pertain to the child’s participation in the program, as well as release from the program.
The Role of the Student:
The student is invited to grow in his/her faith by regular attendance at Sunday Mass and Holy Days of Obligation (there are six in the Archdiocese of New York), participation in the Rite of Reconciliation, and living a moral life that reflects the values and teachings of Jesus Christ. The student is asked to do the following with their parents’ assistance:
Lead a sacramental life, frequently receiving the Eucharist and following the laws, norms and guidelines that tell Catholics how to love God and neighbor (i.e. The Ten Commandments, Corporal Works of Mercy, The Beatitudes, Spiritual Works of Mercy and the Laws of the Church.);

The Role of the Catechist:
The catechetical ministry is sustained by catechists - men and women of Resurrection Parish who volunteer to communicate God’s love to those entrusted to their care by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. The primary mission of catechists is to communicate God’s love to those entrusted to their care by proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. The Catechist prepares for each session using the curriculum and resources provided relating the text based on their own faith experience.
